Testimony Tuesday

Well I will tell you that I have been so impressed at how much of the details that Lilly has picked up about the birth of Jesus.  We have talked about it while we played with our Little People Nativity and when we talk about our upcoming Christmas celebrations and we have learned a little song.  Reid loves to sing the song, too.  I just thought I would share it.  It is actually a combination of two songs that were in my KDO resources and one verse that we made up because my kids were concerned about the donkey.  Ha!  (It is the one about the donkey.)

You sing it to the tune of "Mary Had a Little Lamb"

Mary rode a donkey
A donkey, A donkey
Mary rode a donkey
Going to Bethlehem

Joseph walked beside her
Beside her, Beside her
Joseph walked beside her
Going to Bethlehem

The donkey went clippity-clop
clippity-clop, clippity-clop
The donkey went clippity-clop
Going to Bethlehem

Mary had a baby boy
Baby boy, Baby boy
Mary had a baby boy
And Jesus was His name

They wrapped him up in swaddling clothes
Swaddling clothes, Swaddling clothes
They wrapped him up in swaddling clothes
And laid him in the hay

He came to show us God's great love
God's great love, God's great love
He came to show us God's great love
On that first Christmas Day

Anyway, I have been shocked at the amount of stuff the kids have picked up on and the questions Lilly has asked have kept us laughing.  (I.e.  Mommy, Mary fell off that donkey??)  We never sat the kids down and did a "lesson" on it--we just used teachable opportunities.  We got the nativity set and then told the story as we played.  We sang the song (it is a favorite-they want to sing it all the time).  If we see something and the kids point it out (i.e. baby Jesus in the nativity or an angel made of Christmas lights) we will just reinforce what we have talked about (or their part in the story).

Hope you all are having a Merry Christmas season!
