First Family Jack-O-Lantern!

 Saturday night we carved a jack-o-lantern as a family for the very first time!  We were very excited!  Our pumpkin needed to be washed so we decided to run some water in the tub and test out whether the pumpkin would sink or float...it floats!!  We washed it off and then were ready to go!  We read the pumpkin prayer as we went along...kind of (we were a little busy and had gunky hands)...but we covered the gist.  ( :  Both Lilly and Reid's KDO classes had read The Pumpkin Patch Parable which is a really good book that helps add a little Jesus into pumpkin carving, too.
Cleaning out the insides!  Reid took one handful out and said, "I need to go wash my hands!  I'm done!"  Haha!  And Matt said he was good, too.  Lilly and I got the rest of it, though, and had a good time doing it!  Please notice she is a princess cheerleader.  ( ;
Then we started carving!  I used a dry erase marker to mark the face and then we just worked on cutting it out.  We got one of those "safer" little carving knifes from Wal-Mart for .97 cents and the kids were able to easily carve so I am glad we made that little purchase.
Matt getting into the carving action and Reid checking it out.
 Helping out.
 Lilly really enjoyed the whole pumpkin-carving experience!

Finishing it up!  Reid was all for the washing and carving of the pumpkin.
 Then we put in one of those battery-candlelights that looks like a candle but really isn't.
 We are super proud of our first-family Jack-O-Lantern!!
I'm pretty sure this will become an annual tradition!  Lilly makes sure that the light is on All. The. Time!  She just loves it!

What a great family night. Love Lilly digging in to get the guts out in her princess cheerleader outfit!
