Grandparents & Sloan

Well last weekend we took a little unplanned trip to see Matt's grandparents. All three of them have been in the hospital at some point in the last month. So since our only plans for the weekend had been...sigh...relaxation (which lets face it with a one and a two year old-that probably wasn't in the cards for us anyway), we decided to go visit! First we went by and saw Granddaddy. Reid was curious about the bandage on his arm.
I just love the way that Granddaddy and Reid are looking at each other and the look on Lilly's face while she is looking at them. Those expressions! I took several pictures and Matt had his eyes closed in 90% of them. As Lilly would say it, "fooooo-cus daddy".
Again...the expressions. Cracking me up!
Still trying for a picture where at least the majority of people are looking at the camera....
Got it! Granddaddy was in good spirits and was talking to Matt about what he thought about Mike Anderson becoming the new head coach for Arkansas. He also told me he loved me which made me feel pretty special! Love that man too!
Then we went by to see MamMa. She is still at the "rehabilitation center". She was lively and playful with the children.
Reid found an extra wheel chair. Lilly actually tried to push him around in it but I just didn't see that ending well and put a stop to that.
Lilly and MamMa in their matching seats. Funny story. There was another older lady that was out in the "big room" and any time one of us would get up, she would get up and take that seat. Which was a little humorous but what was really funny was that any time the kids would either cry or get noisy, she would yell "shut that up!" Maybe you had to be there...but it was hysterical.
Getting some MamMa loving!
Then we got to see Grandma Betty too. She came over and had lunch with us on Sunday. The kids were way past nap time by the time we took this picture. Can you tell?
They also played us some sweet music while we ate. Let me just say this--if my kids are musical prodigies--they are keeping it a secret for at least a few more days. Then we headed home, had dinner, and I went and ran 4 miles. Like an idiot...after not running all week, riding in the car for three hours, and on a full stomach...and the longest distance I had ran before was 3 miles. I made it just fine but I was so sore the next day I thought Matt was going to have to dress me because it hurt to move/bend over/think (ha!)/etc. Then we found out we don't have a fourth to run the race and are having some difficulty finding a replacement since the race is a week and 2 days away. Niiiiiicccceeee.
Monday we found out that our sweet friends Damon and Brooke were at the hospital having thier baby girl Sloan. Ahhhh, isn't she just precious?!!!
I was so happy to get to hold her and finally meet little Miss sweetness!
Jenna and I went in together and Matt and Chris stayed in the car--then we switched and the boys came in. I think the guys were in there longer than we were.
But with something this cute and sweet...how can you blame them?

Spring Break

Well, since we were off for a week, I decided to see how Lilly would do with potty training. I had absolutely no expectations going in. I mean the girl has been going in the potty spontaneously for MONTHS but never consistently. But since we won't be home a full week again until summer...we decided to give it a go. She has done so great! I am so proud of her! She goes about 3-4 times a day in the potty on the days that she wants to go...there have been a couple of days where she says "No, I wear diaper!" and that is fine too. But I can tell that she is starting to know when she needs to go a lot better than she did a week and a half ago.
Every time she goes in the potty we have a big celebration. She helps flush. We say goodbye. We wash our hands (she has become obsessed with washing her hands...(her-fathers-child). And then we get a treat of some kind.
One of the treats was a Minnie Mouse temporary tattoo...or "ticker" (sticker) as she insists on calling it. I don't know why she was making these faces but for some reason she did not want me to take a picture of her "ticker". She kept saying, "No, my ticker."
This is, in fact, a picture of her saying that very thing.
But she was all smiles again when she found out she got to keep it. I do not take her stickers on a regular basis so I don't know what that is about.
She also got some M&Ms as a different kind of treat.
Eating M&Ms and saying cheese. Monday we went back to Kid's Day Out (I am one of her teacher's in KDO) and she came up and said she had to go potty once and I took her to the bathroom and she did. Then, later in the day, she came walking across the room with her pants around her ankles saying, "I need a tee-tee" and she went again! When she came out the second time, the whole class clapped for her and she was so proud. I was (am) too. Enough about potties though. (: Ha!
I made it a point not to make plans to do stuff on spring break. I just wanted us to hang out and enjoy some time at home together. That also meant that I didn't take on any "home projects" either. We hung out in PJs a lot. We fixed each others hair. Lilly found these clips and insisted on putting all 20 of them in her hair.

We enjoyed some food....Lilly's favorite is always pizza. And "Ques-a-dill-as" And the dill is pronounced like the dill in dill pickle.
We smiled and laughed and played.
(I have more pictures of stuff we did...but I haven't uploaded them yet.) We played outside and did a lot of swinging.
We made HUGE messes. Lilly snuck the pepper and garlic powder and proceeded to dump them all over the kitchen floor and table. Reid tried to clean up. He gave good effort. But in the end...Mommy had to assist.
We colored and just enjoyed some down time. LOVE the little memories that are made while we are just hanging out together.

Melissa's Shower & Breakfast Casserole

Last weekend I had the privilege of helping host a shower for my buddy Melissa. She is having a girl. But she isn't revealing the name. Sigh. I don't know what has gotten into my friends but all this baby secretiveness is for the birds! Here we are...Jennifer, me, Melissa, Jenna, and Jill. (Just the hostesses--she had lots of guests.)
There was lots of yummy food! She got lots of cute cute cute....I am talking make-me-want-to-have-another-baby kind of cute stuff. Seriously--I got home and told Matt I had "the fever" (as in baby fever) and he told me that I better take some Tylenol!!! Ha! He is funny--part of the reason I married him.
I wish I could take credit for the decor but that was all done before I got there. My job was fruit kabobs and breakfast casserole.
The "baby mama" (ha!) requested that I put the breakfast casserole recipe on here....and what a pregnant woman wants...a pregnant woman gets! It is SUPER EASY!
Ingredients:
  • 1 tube crescent rolls
  • 6-8 slices of thickly sliced or grated pepper jack cheese (our wal-mart only has the thinly sliced so I just do two layers of cheese with it)
  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 cup of milk
  • 2 tablespoons dried onion or minced green onion (I omitted this)
  • 6 slices bacon (fried and crumbled)
  • salt and pepper

Separate and press dough in sprayed 9X13 pan. Press into bottom and 1 inch up the side of pan, sealing seams. Place cheese slices over the dough, sprinkle with bacon. In a small bowl, combine eggs, milk, salt, and pepper, pour over cheese slices. Cover loosely with foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Melissa also got all the hostesses beautiful picture frames as a hostess gift (which was totally unnecessary but sooo sweet and thoughtful). I just love it! If I wasn't completely rushed for time I would go take a picture of it and put it on here...maybe this week. Anyway, I had such a great time celebrating "baby sister" and can't wait to meet her!! (And find out what her actual name is. (c:)

Cousins

Lilly and Reid have twin 3-year old cousins and the other day we went up to Aunt Theresa and Uncle Mike's for a playdate. They went down the slide every-which-way-possible.
On their bellies (if you could see Lilly's face you would see that she is laughing),
bat-wards (backwards...but I like how Lilly says it better) (also not pictured),
and regular!
They picked some flowers. This is Eva Kate saying "cheese" with her flower.
Doesn't he look so serious?
The boys played in the dirt and threw rocks at the brick. Boys will be boys. Look at that smile! He was just so happy to see what an older boy does.
This was the best picture I could get of Marshall. He saw the camera and would just turn away from it saying "No! Never!" Haha!

LAST weekend. Ha!

Okay--so this week coming up is spring break and let me just tell you guys--I LOVE our busy life but I am looking forward to a week with nothing planned that we HAVE to do. Every once in a while those are just nice. Especially since this past week and weekend have been packed with activities--all wonderful activities but packed! So, I am just now getting around to blogging about last weekend (like a week ago). Friday night DeDe was in town and she watched the kids so that Matt and I could go out with some friends.
It was our friend Sarah's birthday so we went to the Mellow Mushroom to celebrate with her. It was so much fun hanging out and we were so blessed to be able to help her celebrate.
Saturday morning we got up and went to this little sweet thing's (Cilla) birthday party.
It was a barn party (the barn was nicer than our house--and I love our house--but it isn't what I was expecting when I heard we were going to a "barn" party). Rebekah did such a great job with all of the details. She even had mason jars for the drink glasses. Is that not the cutest idea? I digress...it is late and I am feeling chatty.
My handsome man on a pony ride. Gosh I could just eat him up!
Sweet, silly, busy Lilly on the go while eating one of like three cupcakes that she ate. Every time I turned around she had grabbed another cupcake.
Reid, on the other hand, kept sneaking cakeballs. He was double-fisting it too. Our kids like dessert!
Lilly loved this carpet ball (? Is that the technical name? I don't know.) game.
And Reid loved the roller coaster. Riding on it, laying on it, walking on it...didn't matter...he found it all entertaining. We had a great time at the party! Then the kids went home and napped and I went to a baby shower for my sweet friend Laura. They aren't finding out what they are having. Can I just tell you all that it is driving me crazy! I need to know people! (: Then we went and ate cupcakes (before dinner because there was a wait at the restaurant) and then had dinner at a local burger place with DeDe, MoMo, Aunt Shelly, Uncle Tom, and cousins Ethan and Emma. We had a waitress that was so rude it was hilarious. I almost felt like cameras were going to appear out of nowhere and they were going to tell us we were being some unfamous version of Punked. I pray she is having a better day today. (:
Sunday we went to church and then hung out with DeDe before she had to go home (boooo).
Then Sunday night we cooked out with MoMo and PaPa Ray and my Grandma Berti (who I just realized I haven't updated since she had the stroke--she is doing great!). The kids were so spoiled rotten from having both grandparents in town at the same time. Gotta love those "granny detox" days. Ha!
Reid (and Lilly) are ready to welcome them back anytime!!
