Well I had planned on writing this yesterday but the time got away from me and the energy just wasn't there. Which is pretty ironic because I am going to be talking about self-discipline. Ha! Also yesterday I just couldn't decide on what to write about...this or the happenings of last week. The thing is last week is just too fresh and I don't think I can do it justice yet. Next week I will have a list of scripture verses that I have found some comfort in though!
Ok, digressing time is over! So let me start by saying that I always pray for the Lord to show me the area he wants me to focus on and improve on. I keep waiting for the day that he reveals nothing to me...it hasn't happened yet. The latest thing he has shown me is my need to be more disciplined with my time. (Some might say less lazy but I don't like those people anyway. Ha! That is JUST a joke!)
But as the Lord has shown me lately, and as the bible states in Psalm 39:4-5 "Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered--how fleeting my life is. You have made my life now longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath." That is a scripture way of saying, "Our time here is short. Each day is a non-repeatable gift. You need to make the most of it."
Now becoming more self-disciplined is a behavior change that I can not make on my own. I have tried. I get motivated. It last for two weeks. I think I am awesome. Then "life" happens and I am back to my undisciplined self. SOOOO I know I am going to need some God help on this one. I asked my twitter friends a couple of weeks ago to give me some of their favorite discipline-related scripture. Because scripture helps me. When Satan tries to bring in the lies that keep me from changing, I use scripture to remind me that I can do all things through Him who strengthens me (Phil 4:13)! Boo-yah Satan. But I needed some scriptural ammo...and my "tweeps" came through.
Here are the verses they shared:
1 Corinthians 9:25-27 (NLT) All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.
Colossians 3:23 (NIV) Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than people.
Hebrews 12:11 (NIV) No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
Proverbs 13:4 (NLT) Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper.
Romans 12:11 (NLT) Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.
Then I found "So, then, be careful how you live. Do not be unwise but wise, making the best use of your time because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16" on this blog post and this is the one that I am trying to memorize because my goal is really to be the best steward of the time that God is giving me.
And if that doesn't work I can always here my friend Marci saying, "Leaving your laundry in the basket is just lazy. Suck it up and dominate it!" Ha!!
